About
I'm Luis Vaz, a software engineer based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, writing code since 2008. My work sits where backend systems, DevOps, functional programming, and security meet: designing services, automating infrastructure, and sweating the details that keep software fast and reliable in production.
These days I work deep in the AI-native workflow: coding agents, harnesses, MCP servers, and tooling like Claude Code and Codex, building software where humans direct and agents execute. I am stack agnostic and AI agnostic: Claude, Codex, Gemini, or Chinese frontier providers, whatever delivers the best quality to cost ratio for the business gets the job. AI-first is not a slide in a deck here, it is how the work actually gets done.
Off the clock I run a homelab (half playground, half proving ground), and I am most at home with OCaml, Elixir, and Rust: the languages I reach for when a problem deserves care. Languages are a habit outside the terminal too: Portuguese natively, English at an advanced level, German and Dutch somewhere on the climb.
In the margins there is also an ethereal audio side quest and compilers, which scream at me and are loved anyway.
